Wellington Arch Ross Ashton Projection Artist
This is one of Ashton’s favourite spaces. He was first commissioned to produce a light sculpture here to draw attention to the work of the Royal British Legion.
Ashton produced a falling montage of poppies with the words that fell behind the text, 'We Will Remember Them'', a quote from John McCrea's poem, 'In Flanders Fields'.
For Ashton, Wellington Arch allows for many interpretations. It's three dimensional architecture and the ability to walk 'through' the projection has allowed him to re-interpret it in many ways.
‘I like to take the landscape and the three-dimensional shape of the space as my inspiration. These spaces are the world people inhabit. By projecting onto them, I can stimulate a new experience of light interacting with familiar surfaces.’ |
