Ashton has had a long relationship with the Island of Malta that culminated with a commission to supply the projection for the show designed to celebrate Malta joining the European Union in 2004.
The Fort St Angelo stands 500 metres across the bay in the city of Valletta. The entire city of Valletta is a World heritage Site.
“Many of the buildings that I work with are protected, listed or world heritage sites. It is not possible to physically manipulate these buildings in any way on a permanent basis. Re-manipulating the architecture within the projection allows the possibility of changing and re-imagining these buildings on a transitory non-destructive basis.” |
